I have really bad acne on the back of my legs from running. I don't have acne otherwise, and I don't stay in sweaty clothes any longer than I have to after my runs. Is there anything I can do besides scrubbing the s*hit out of them every day?How do I control acne caused from running?
Weird. Try getting soap with 3% salicylic acid in it ( I use that), tht can reduce acne. Also an antibiotic (oral) can wipe it out. I had to take some Augmentin for another infection and WOW it KO'd my minor acne. How do I control acne caused from running?
I just thought of something; could it be an allergy to grass? If you sit in grass all sweaty, it can cause bumps. I get that, so I don't sit in the grass unless I have long pants on. Report Abuse
Running does not cause acne. It is possible that stress can make acne worse. If that was the case then it would not be just on your legs. Have you spoken to a dermatologist? Besides scrubbing there are several over the counter acne medications that are very effective. Try some of the ointments from the drug store. Do not over scrub your legs, just keep them clean and get rid of the excess oil.
I've suffered from acne, been on antibiotics for it the lot, and running doesn't cure it. Getting out in the sun and fresh air is better for your acne and I was adviced to spend as much time out running and hiking (only because I told him they were my current interests - it was just the get out bit) as I possibly could to expose my skin to the sun and the fresh air. Also as Lestermount has mentioned stress can be a cause, and running relieves stress; so no matter how you look at it running would reduce not cause acne symptoms. Its either not acne but something else, or is it acne restricted to your legs but which is unconnected to running. I would just treat your legs the same way you would your face, and possibly see a doctor.
Put the same things that you do for your face on the back of your legs. Give them a facial, make sure that they are dry and then put some acne cream on them.
Try switching Laundry detergent. You may be having a reaction to the sweat mixing with the soap. Try running in shorts. If you already are then I would say a dermatologist is in order. It's weird that you have it only on your legs.
